ACT LIKE AN ANGEL
Don’t you love it when someone says to you, “You’re an angel?” What they generally mean is, “Aren’t you adorable?” There is one thing for sure: an angel is anything but a chubby little winged creature shooting love arrows on Valentine’s Day. What is an angel? What do they do? Well, there are different kinds of angels and different hierarchies. They have different assignments, but they all have one thing in common.
Read these two verses: “Praise the LORD, you angels, you mighty ones to carry out His plans, listening for each of His commands. Yes, praise the LORD, you armies of angels who serve Him and do His will” (Psalm 103:20-21, NLT).
The sole purpose of all angels is to listen carefully to every one of God’s commands and carry out His plans. They spend every second of every day serving Him and doing His will. They aren’t even seen. The focus is never on them. They rarely get any credit. They find their entire purpose and joy in worshiping and serving the LORD.
The Psalmist David described what these mighty angels do, and then he concludes with “Let ALL THAT I AM praise the LORD” (Psalm 103:22).
You and I may not be angels, but we can spend our lives doing the exact thing the angels spend their lives doing, which is listening for each of His commands, serving Him, and doing His will. And you can do it without anyone else knowing it was us or giving us praise. We aren’t angels, but through the Holy Spirit we can do one of the primary things they do. Adrian Rogers said, “The Holy Spirit is not for your enjoyment but for your employment.”
