DUCT TAPE OVER MY MOUTH
“Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips. Don’t let me drift toward evil” (Psalm 141:3-4a, NLT).
If there ever was a prayer for me, this is it. There are a few of you out there that I know this should be the prayer for you, as well. I've heard you. I've been you.
I am changing. I want to change. Change with me. I do NOT want to be known for my irreverent humor and my biting sarcasm. I do NOT want to be known as someone who always speaks her mind or says what everyone else is thinking. I do NOT want to live on the edge of what is acceptable and be bilingual with the language of the world. I do NOT want a t-shirt or a mug that says, “I love Jesus, but I cuss a little.”
PRAYER:
"O LORD, make me slow to speak, not quick. Let me be able to pass up things to say that would bring a laugh at someone else’s expense. Empty me of myself and bring dullness to my sharp tongue so that I can be full of Your words of wisdom, graciousness, and gentleness. Let everyone I am around be less impressed with me and how quick and witty I am, and more impressed with You and how holy and awesome You are."
