TIME TO REEVALUTE
TIME TO REEVALUATE
"I will consider my earthly existence to have been wasted unless I can recall a loving family, a consistent investment in the lives of people, and an earnest attempt to serve the God who made me." James Dobson
At the time I am writing this, we are in the last month of another year. It is a good time to reevaluate and make changes. Some things need tweaking, while others need a complete overhaul.
Whatever you are doing, whether you are a business owner, an employee, self-employed, or retired, I believe that you should gravitate toward situations that would give you the freedom and flexibility to do things with and for your family that would bring you together. Many times, that means choosing less income or turning down a "promotion." Many times, a promotion at work is a demotion at home. There are no hard, fast rules. You have to seek wisdom and direction from the Holy Spirit. One thing is for sure, though--money and title are never the most important consideration.
Whatever you are do, also look for opportunities to invest spiritually, relationally, and emotionally in the lives of the people with whom you work and serve. Your co-workers and customers are an assignment from God for you to encourage and model God's love. Every work situation you find yourself in should be a calling from God to serve Him by serving others. God certainly desires for you to be a good steward of the giftings and talents He has placed within you. There are many great things you are equipped to accomplish. But your number one goal in whatever you do should not be to make a name for yourself. Your number one goal should be to lift high the name of the One who gave you the abilities you possess. Always keep in mind that if you take care of God's business, He will take care of yours. "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33).
If you feel you are forced to compromise your integrity or priorities at work, this is a great time of year to reevaluate. You may not be able to make a change in your employment for equal or more income, but your life, your family, and your ability to serve God are of far more importance than money.
