HE IS SPEAKING. YOU AREN’T LISTENING

HE IS SPEAKING. YOU AREN’T LISTENING.

I am learning something. Throughout my life, I have often thought that there were extended periods when God was silent. I have felt that there were times when He didn’t choose to communicate or even seem to care.

I am realizing now that most of the times I thought that He was silent were actually times when it was I who wasn’t listening. I can see now that it wasn’t Jesus who didn’t care. It was I who had been so callous that I couldn’t feel His touch. It was I who was so self-absorbed that I overlooked His unwavering love.

I realize now that whenever I turn down the noise in my life, I can always hear His voice. When I let go of the distractions, I can always see His hand. When I lean in, I can always feel His intimate presence. Yes, there are times when He is speaking in silence. That is the most intimate type of communication there is. The "sound of silence" is the sound of peace, pleasure, and presence. Eye contact, smiles, touch, and the contentment to sit side by side and hand in hand without a word. No one can tell me that isn't speaking. That speaks volumes!

He is not hiding from me. He is constantly pursuing. “Surely Your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life” (Psalm 23:6a NLT). I was the one running from Him!

Stop. Look. Listen. He is there. He is speaking. You aren’t waiting on Him. He is the one waiting on you.

My son has come to my house three days in a row, and I haven’t heard him ringing the doorbell. I defended myself by saying that obviously the doorbell was broken. I told him to see for himself. I confidently told him to go outside and ring the doorbell, and his wife and I would listen for it. Guess what? It works perfectly. The volume in my life has been turned up so loud that I have not heard my precious son, who has been left waiting outside wanting to visit.

You think Jesus doesn’t care, and He isn’t speaking. Turn the volume down and listen. He is standing at your door right now waiting on you to answer.

Revelation 3:20 isn’t written to lost people. It is written to you. Jesus says, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” You tell me what that sounds like.
