ARE YOU ONE OF THE INSIGNIFICANT WOMEN?
When Jesus was arrested, Mark 14:50 says, “Then all His disciples deserted Him and ran away.” But at the cross, Mark writes: “Some women were there, watching from a distance... Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and Salome. They had been followers of Jesus and cared for Him in Galilee. Many other women who had come with Him to Jerusalem were also there.” (Mark 15:40–41 NLT)
Did you catch that? The disciples ran. But the women stayed. Three were named, but there were "many others" who were also there. No one even knows who they were. That is so interesting. Maybe like those "other women" at the cross, nobody at your church knows your name. But Jesus does.
In Mark 14:8-9 an unnamed woman poured expensive perfume on Jesus, preparing Him for burial. The disciples were indignant, but Jesus said: “She has done what she could… Wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed." Mark didn’t even record her name, but Jesus made sure her act of love would never be forgotten. 2000 years later I'm talking about it.
It was the women — not the well-known disciples — who were at the cross. It was the women were the first to find the empty tomb. And the angel told them: “Now go and tell His disciples, including Peter…” (Mark 16:7). It was the women who told the disciples! The so-called “insignificant” ones delivered the most important message in history. Think about that.
So here’s my question: What has God called you to do, even if no one sees it or acknowledges you? Is it visiting a widow? Loving a child? Offering a hug, a meal, or a listening ear? You may admire a celebrity chef on TV, but the person who shows up at your door with a casserole—that’s the one who ministers to you.
So go give someone a muffin. Or a smile. Or hope. Do what you can, not caring who gets the credit — and trust God to use it in ways you’ll never imagine. No one else may notice, but He will!
