DISTRACTIONS

We live in a world of urgency. The ringing phone, the incoming text, the breaking news. When something pops up, we have to check it instantly.

We feel guilty if we don't respond to the urgent requests of those around us, which come in the form of delegation, desperate pleas for immediate help, or even seemingly harmless invitations that result in distractions. Other people are constantly asking us, needing us, even demanding us to leave what we are doing and do something for them or with them.

Satan is luring us away with deception, disruption, or a decoy.

It often feels impossible to stay focused or to work according to the priorities God has given us. We struggle to pursue our own calling because we're made to feel selfish for not dropping everything to put out fires we didn’t even start.

Yes, there are always times when we need to drop what we're doing. We need to be divinely interruptable. Genuine service is serving when it is inconvenient. The question I want to pose today is, why do we feel the need to respond to the demands and distractions of everything and everyone, but not to God?

The response that has changed my life is found in Psalm 27:8, "My heart has heard You say, 'Come and talk with Me.' And my heart responds, 'LORD, I am coming.'"
