JOHN MCARTHUR TALKING ABOUT ADRIAN ROGERS’ CHILDREN???

I was sent this quote from John McArthur by someone this morning. It's about my father and his children. That got my attention!!!

Here is the quote:

"I remember hearing Dr. Adrian Rogers say that if he had it to do over again, he would read from Proverbs every day to his kids. They turned out to be great kids and they were raised right. Nevertheless, if he had it to do again, he thought a more emphasis on Proverbs is the way to go. This is why I am spending so much time in Proverbs with my kids."

My dad may not have been as negligent as he thought because I have a great love for Proverbs today. Parents, don't be too hard on yourselves. I you didn't do it with your children, you can just do it with your grandchildren. Truthfully, Daddy probably TRIED to do it with us, and we didn't cooperate. Surprise, you aren't the only family like that. Even Adrian Rogers' children gave him resistance with family devotions. I know because I'm one of those children who resisted! Some things my father wasn't able to completely do because of my strong will, stuck anyway. (And I'm pretty sure my brothers and sister contributed as well, but I'll only throw myself under the bus).

Regardless, the Holy Spirit will "redeem the years the locusts have eaten." For years as an adult, I have missed very few days when I didn't read a chapter of Proverbs every day. I almost always read the chapter in Proverbs that corresponds to the day of the month. This morning I read Proverbs 21. There are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs. If you stick with this system, you will read the entire book of Proverbs every month. This isn't the only thing I read, but it is something I always read in addition to everything else.

Even though we may not have always cooperated as children, there are times I definitely remember my father picking out a Proverb and had each of us discuss what we thought it meant. Then he helped us apply it to the things going on in our lives.

If you have children, the younger you start, the better. If they are older and don't cooperate, then do the best you can. Some of it will stick. If your children are raised and gone, then do it with the grandchildren. If you can't do that, then just do it for yourself. You will become wise, and you may get to share that wisdom with someone else's children and grandchildren. It's never too late to start.

I was interested to read this quote from my father. I was interested to read that John McArthur even knew Adrian Rogers' children existed. And I was most interested to know that John McArthur said, "They turned out to be great kids." If you can get John McArthur's approval on anything, you've done something! There you have it, John McArthur said that I turned out great. That's good to know!
