UNDAMMING THE DAM

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to Me! Anyone who believes in Me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”(When He said “living water,” He was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in Him)" (John 7:37-39a, NLT).

I believe we can dam up the free flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives--through unconfessed sin, bitterness, unforgiveness, and anything we place above God. Those things become idols, and idols become strongholds, and strongholds become dams. But when we come to God in brokenness and surrender, those dams are torn down. And when the Spirit is released to flow freely through us like rivers of living water, undamming the dam gives us the power to undamn the damned--to bring hope, freedom, and salvation to those still trapped behind their own walls.
